We have been promised a lot of changes including a fresh dashboard navigation in Wordpress 2.7. The public beta 1 release is already out and is can be downloaded from here. The official release post can be found here. Couple of interesting things to notice is that right now Wordpress 2.7 works well with just Firefox and Safari and the final release will support Internet Explorer and Opera.

Also, the Wordpress team is behind schedule and the final release which was due on November 10th of this year has been pushed forward for at least couple of weeks. However, on 10th of November the team plans to release a release candidate for wordpress 2.7. You should however will be able to get the final release by November 10th.

Also, please be advised that this is beta and hence you might encounter issues, so please use it at your own risk on your blogs. if you just want to test it we at TNerd. Following is the URL and admin details to start testing Wordpress 2.7 Beta 1.

Following are few snapshots of Wordpress 2.7 Beta 1. (Click to enlarge)

As you can see some important areas are marked by arrows. If you notice on the left had side you can see a beautiful navigation bar which has all the sections important for an admin. No more going page by page. Now you can go to any section almost with a single click.

The left side navigation bar stays intact on every page of dashboard so you can go to any section with just one click. Other important feature to notice on the main dashboard page are option to make a quick post. I think it’s awesome again. It’s not just another way to post as it almost covers all the aspects of posting like, inserting media and tags. However, categories are missing. you can also remove the sections from the dashboard page by clicking screen options and disable the one’s you don’t want.

Next we ventured into the “New Post” page and it has some new features for itself. Following is a snapshot of the New Post page.

As you’ll notice immediately, that there is an option to stick the post to front page. That means you can make a post to stick as the top post irrespective of other posts published after the sticky post. The sticky post will always remain as your first post. We also tested what happens if there are more than one sticky post. In that case the latest post takes priority followed by the next sticky post, followed by normal posts.
