Women Arrested for Virtual Murder!

A multiplayer game "Maple Story" is attracting a lot of publicity and new crowd, thanks to a 43 year-old Women who completely lost it and decided to kill her 33 year-old husband after being divorced in the virtual world, the murder also happened in the virtual world.

As bizarre as it may sound she got arrested for it. Not really for the murder but because of the way she did it, she "hacked" into the man’s account and killed his avatar in the virtual world.

The guy had earlier shared his login information with the women using which she logged in and killed his avatar. Now is that considered as hacking? Yes, it is, as the women gained access to his account without his knowledge.

The police officials stated that the women is not charged yet, however, if convicted she might face a term of 5 years or $5000 fine.

Though the intervention of the law and police in the virtual world seems to make things more secure it makes me a little uncomfortable. Virtual world is a place where lines cannot be drawn easily, login information shared today might be OK but can turn into an offence tomorrow depending on the situation. Its complicated!!
