Flickr Desktop Search: Search flickr right from your desktop
I think one area of information that’s still to be captured thoroughly is information in the form of images. People around the world are doing great research on how to understand and tap the information from a photo. What are the semantics of information which can be captured from an image which will give an idea about the image.
We are still not in that era, but I am sure we are not too far from it. I am sure some of the recommendations of Web 3.0 are going to strongly focus on capturing the information from images and pictures.
However, as of now when the web is still in web 2.0 era, there are some wonderful services that we would have missed. These services have redefined what the way we manage our images/pictures/photos. One such service is flickr. I think the most used service from the basket of Yahoo! is Flickr, at least for me.
I always wished that there was an easier way for me to browse flickr and not struggle with the web interface of it. I think I have found something close if not exactly what I thought. This little piece of utility is called as Flickr Desktop Search and helps you search for flickr photo right from your desktop.
Not to take away from the fact that the results that you view are part of a web serving, but still the neat and simple interface makes this service a good one for novice. The problem with the service however is that it is an adobe air application which is pretty resource consuming. All in all a good pice of utility.
