BlogActionDay: Teach India Initative by Times of India. Be there!

Blog Action Day Poverty!

Blog Action Day is an annual event where all the bloggers, podcasters and videocasters from around the world come together to blog about critical issues to trigger a global discussion and this year the topic of discussion is “Poverty.”

On this occasion we would like to shed some light on a social initiative taken up by an Indian news paper, Times Of India, called “Teach India” which aims are gathering people who can contribute sometime at teaching underpriviledge children in India.

Teach IndiaThis is a nationwide initiative, so no matter where you are in India you can volunteer to be a part of the social cause and help the children in need. The cause is supported by over 60 NGO’s, Corporates, Schools and Social organizations to make it a success.

You can volunteer by going to http://teach.timesofindia.com and register online or visit any of your nearest Times of India office and fill a form, or you can even SMS 58888 and get the registration form to your e-mail address. SMS Teach to 58888.

Once the registration formalities are completed you will be mapped with a coordinator at one of the NGO’s in your city to take it forward. This program will last for 3 months, but you can continue to teach in coordination with the NGO.

Why Teach India?

Mostly primary school children are involved in this program, so, the topics could be just a story telling to something basic, most often than not these sessions are expected to be a one-on-one or limited to a very small group. All the coordination will be done at the NGO level where the coordinator will help you choose your topics.

I have personally participated in such initiatives in the past and would certainly encourage our readers to do the same. It’s a humble cause and definitely fulfilling.
