MashLogic: TakeBack the web by mashing up the information as you browse
The philosophy that paves path from web 2.0 to possibly web 3.0 will have mashups as one of it’s major features. Not that web 2.0 doesn’t have mashups but the way these mashups will add various functionality for web 3.0 is beyond imagination. Also, called as web application hybrid, these mashups are going to radically change the way we access web and it’s components.
What we are going to see today is something which creates a wonderful mashup and provides functionality which creates a very unique experience. This service is called as MashLogic and is one that promises to help web surfers take back the web. Before we get into the details of what this service is and how it creates a phenomenal web experience, let’s see what a mashup means. According to the wikipedia:
In web development, a mashup is a web application that combines data from more than one source into a single integrated tool. Mashups should be differentiated from simple embedding of data from another site to form compound documents.
What is MashLogic?
MashLogic is a Firefox extension that works quietly under the hood to enrich web pages with the kind of information and media you care about. MashLogic highlights all the important stuff on a web page and provides you with more information (in form of videos, wiki definitions etc) about them. Following is a snapshot of what MashLogic does and wonderfully mashes up things for a great browsing experience.
Not that MashLogic is one of it’s kind. Actually services similar to this already exist. We already covered a similar but restricted service by AnswerTips. Another one which is similar to this is called as Hyperwords. Another great service similar to this is Interclue. Another similar service is Sphere. This one however is for your blogs and enhances your blogging activities and let’s you generate great blog content.
Where is MashLogic from?
MashLogic is incubated by Bessemer Venture Partners and based in Menlo Park, CA.
Following is how the settings screen looks like where you can set various MashLogic preferences.
Right now this service is in private beta and you have to sign up for getting an invite. The business model will be of course base on contextual advertising or affiliate links. I am sure this is just the beginning.
