In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) which services the requests of its clients by forwarding requests to other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server provides the resource by connecting to the specified server and requesting the service on behalf of the client.

As I've seen on Digital Point Forum's proxy thread most proxy owners just try to make a buck with no intentions to steal your info. Most of the proxy websites look ugly because of ads. Ad networks don't pay much for ads placed on the proxy web sites so the website owners have to use several ad networks at a time. All these banners, pop ups and pop unders look really horrible but this is the only way to keep web proxy free for its users.

Vivek,
Good post!. However, We also have to mentioned that web/proxy sites like the one stated in the post are blocked on most enterprise and Country based URL filtering devies in a specific category. Even, open vpn sites are blocked since they provide the best masking of data transmission or evading through the available Internet stream over ssl/ssh based tunneling. The only best and smart way to get around a firewall or URL/content filtering devices is by hosting our own system outside the enterprise or Local ISP's network perimeter and tunnel to it with port forwarding. This will be a bit slow and not recommended for slow Internet connections because the encryption involved with the data payload.
