Stanford Leads the Way by Offering iPhone Application Programming Course and iApps Project!

Stanford iAppsStanford announced a course titled “iPhone Application Programming” which will offer a to z of iPhone app development. University also stated that Stanford was the first in the country to take the lead on iPhone development and offer such a course to the students. The course already has about 80 registered students.

Apple recently announced a program for education institutions which are looking to introduce an iPhone development related course, the program is called “iPhone developer University program”. Apple will supply the resources and the information to the students applying for this program.

“With the suite of sophisticated and elegant tools included in the iPhone SDK, and a wide-range of resources in the iPhone Dev Center, students participating in the class will have everything they need to create innovative applications for iPhone and iPod touch.” [link]

Stanford is leading the way by not only offering a course in iPhone Application development but also developing its own iPhone application. Visit StudentApps to see the applications “developed by Stanford students for Stanford students”!

iApps Project by Stanford offers 5 different applications to their students. These applications help students in accessing required information from Stanford systems.

Applications that are available as part of iApps project are..

  1. Maps: This application lets you lookup for anything on Stanford’s campus.
  2. Directory: As the name suggests, it lets you search for anyone in Stanford.
  3. ePay: Applcation is designed to view your payment history, set payment reminders, make payments online, etc..
  4. Courses: Add or drop a course, view your grading history, bookmark classes you are not sure about using this application.
  5. Athletics: Get scores, news, schedules, etc.. for your favorite teams..

Currently only a small number of students are testing these applications at Stanford but the university plans to add more students to the list and also teach them how to create such applications.

Paul Marcos and Evan Doll of Apple will teach iPhone development coming this fall and as the university states that they are expecting some “eye-popping applications” to be developed by their students.
