There are only a handful of gadgets which really solve a problem without creating a new one. One of the best things about technology today is that it complements our lives in the way we have never imagined before.
This article talks about one such gadget which can be of great help to students or anyone involved in any project work, etc..
The gadget is called “Pulse SmartPen” by LiveScribe, it does things you’ve never thought a pen could do for you. In a nut shell, the pen start recording voices around you as soon as you start writing and it also takes pictures with a special camera built at the tip of the pen which later matches the recording with the writing.
The SmartPen uses the images captured at the time of writing to accurately match the recorded voice at the time of writing. So that you can just tap on the 15th line on the third page and listen to what was being said or discussed in the classroom when you wrote that line in your book.

- It comes with a specially designed USB cradle using which you can transfer your notes to your PC or a laptop.
- Headphones that come with this pen have inbuilt microphones for recording almost everything you hear.
- It has an integrated infrared camera which takes about 72 pictures every second. That means it records virtually everything you draw or write using this pen.
- As the information on this pen is digital in nature, notes and recording saved on the pen can easily be shared online.
Makers of this pen say that it’s not just a pen it’s a pen with a built in computer. So, don’t be surprised when to see software’s like translators or games come loaded with the pen.
With so many things loaded on one pen it just weighs 1.3 ounces. The SmartPen comes in two sizes, 1GB would cost you $149 and 2GB would cost you $199.

Hi. Has any one actually tried one of these things. They sound great but I wonder how good they are. I notice that they have dropped a bit in price so that is why I am asking.
