How-To migrate from Internet Explorer to Firefox

We at TNerd understand the importance of sharing what we have learned and going forward we’ll be sharing these learning. The idea is not to restrict TNerd to a highly sophisticated blog. We would be discussing topics, like how to setup and secure your wireless, how to get started on Gmail chat and so on. These topics might sound trivial but this for the benefit of people who might not know about these. This will be the first article in these lines of thought.

So, today let’s start with how to migrate from Internet to Firefox. What does this mean? We all need a browser to visit out favorite sites for reading news, checking emails and so on. Both Internet Explorer and Firefox are two such browsers among many others. is a browser that comes by default with your windows operating system. No doubt, in most cases it’ll cater to all your needs of daily browsing, but there are better browsers available and the best part is most of them are free and Firefox is a highly customizable browser that would redefine the way your browse.

Today, we will see in very simple steps, how to install Firefox on your computer and best of all import all your valuable favorites (called as bookmarks in Firefox) into Firefox. We would like to let our readers know that installing Firefox does not mean that you won’t be able to use . Good part is you can use both the browsers with all your favorites available in Firefox in the form of bookmarks.

Step 1: Download Firefox 3

In order to start using Firefox, you’ll need install it. And to install it you will need it’s setup file. You can get the setup here. Click on the run button as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 2: Launch the setup wizard

Give permission to launch the setup wizard by clicking continue.

Step 3: Follow the instructions to complete the installation

The setup wizard is pretty easy and you can walk through it. First, accept the License agreement after going through it. Next, choose one of the setup options. In most of the cases you’ll have to choose “Standard“. In case you want to install Firefox in another drive/directory please choose “Custom”. Also, if you want to remain your default browser please uncheck the box marked by the orange arrow.

Step 4: Start Firefox

You can start Firefox, by clicking the Firefox icon on the desktop.

Step 5: Importing Settings into your Firefox

Once you’ll launch the Firefox for the first time you’ll get a screen like the one below for importing Favorites, history and passwords from your . Just click next and check the items you want to import from . That’s all! Click the Finish button and you will have Firefox running.
