Do you use Microsoft Windows operating system like Microsoft Vista, XP, ME or 98. If you do, did you find your system getting sluggish over a period of time. Do you know that one of the major reasons for a Windows based computer to get slow and sluggish is because of ever increasing size of something called as Windows Registry. In this post we are going to focus on solutions to trim the size of your windows registry and improve the performance of your system. But before that let’s see what Windows Registry is and what it does.
According to Wikipedia:
The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions, and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC, etc. Whenever a user makes changes to Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies, or most installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry. The registry also provides a window into the operation of the kernel, exposing runtime information such as performance counters and currently active hardware.
Don’t worry if you didn’t get most of it. Trust me, neither did I

I have used a few of the free Windows registry cleaners. My favorite is CCleaner. I think it does a great job especially for the price. I too read Pcworld's review and think Tweaknow's registry cleaner is also pretty good. I still prefer and use CCleaner though.
