Comscore: Indians perform only 53 searches a month? At least in June we did!
Comscore recently released a study for the month of June specific to India. The study suggests that Indians on an average searched for information only 53 times in the month of June which slams India on 36th position out of 37 countries in the list.
It also states the fact that India represents 15% of world’s population but when it comes to searching online we generate less than 2% searches performed worldwide.
Few other interesting facts…
- Rediff is India’s Number 1 Local Search engine with slightly less than 2% market share.
- Google stood first with 81% market share and answered more than a billion searches in the month of June.
It is interesting and unfortunate to see that SEQUOIA backed local search engine Guruji.com does not make it to the list. SEQUOIA invested $7 million in the local search engine promoted by two IIT alumni.
With close to 50k users a month I am not too sure how long will it take for Guruji to show up on the “Top Local Search engine” chart in India.

Accuracy of the data from sources like Comscore or Compete is a never ending debate that we will not get into; we are simply going with the numbers that are available to us publicly.
