Google Insights-Fun with some keywords, Sex leads the chart!

We at TNerd always try to ensure that we bring you the latest technological updates and break through as and when they are released. Abbas, posted about Google Insights sometime back and TNerd was one of the few websites which brought you that story faster than others. I managed to play around with the service but in a much more entertaining way and this post is an effort to bring to you the fun part of keyword search you can do on Google Insights. Following are the keywords I searched for and my interpretation about them.

1. iPhone (Trust me I did not start with the keyword sex )

Quite strangely, if you would notice Hong Kong and very interestingly Trinidad and Tobago lead the regional interest section for iphone searches on Google. However, if I did a side by side comparison with Google Trends, Trinidad and Tobago is missing from the list.

However, a city wise analysis suggests a more normal behavior with 4 US cities leading the list. If I were to do a demand and supply analysis of iPhone, Apple should be ecstatic because the rising searches show that people are searching for unlocked iphone and unlock iphone suggesting that there’s a lot of demand for the phone in the countries where it’s not officially available. Also, if you are a blogger you might be interested in doing good number of post on iPhone related stuff because iPhone is 13% of total major searches across 2004 till date and 43% in the year 2008 alone.

2. olympics (no sex yet )

Nothing much to analyse here, just checkout the rising searches field and look for Beijing Olympics. They are right at bottom. Any guesses for this behavior? Well, it’s simple the time line since 2004 and I am sure in China they don’t use much of Google and at least don’t search for beijing olympics in English.

Most importantly and interestingly don’t forget to optimize you blog posts for the typo "bejing olympics" which fairs better than the correct spelling "beijing olympics".

3. "web 2.0" (god damn it where’s sex – patience, my friend is a virtue!)

I am proud of the fact that for "web 2.0" India tops the regional interest list and Sri Lanka is third. Indians lead the chart searching for something as intellectual as "Web 2.0". Also, quite strangely USA doesn’t feature in top 10. However, city wise San Francisco leads the list and Delhi is on 3rd place.

4. Sex (I better discuss it before people question my interest in Sex )

No prizes for guessing sex is one of the most heavily searched keyword on Internet. Google Insight suggests that 84% of all major searches is for the term sex since 2004 till date. Actully it hovers between 80 and 92% across any time range. Let’s have a look at how various countries fair. I am happy to announce that India is no longer leading the chart and is actually at 7th position (In Google Trends too India is 4th). Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh (South Asian countries) are the top three countries in that order looking for sex online.

However, Delhi tops the chart for being the top city in world looking for sex online. If you look at the stats in the figure below there’s a staggering difference in search for sex between Delhi (1st place) and Ankara (Turkey) that’s on second place. What this suggests that if searches from Delhi for sex is normalized to 100 then Ankara has only 49 searches for sex. A huge difference suggesting the high volume of search origination for the keyword sex from Delhi.

I noticed that on Google Trends for the keyword sex, the news result has a spam result.

You might want to keep a close eye on the rising search volumes for keyword sex if you blog stuff related to porn. Other interesting stats related to sex (and other porn keywords) are as follow:

1. Eritrea leads the chart looking for sex.com followed by Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri lanka. Delhi and Chennai are the top two cities in the world looking for sex.com and there are 4 cities from India in top 10.
2. For the keyword Fuck Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri lanka are top three countries and India being 10th. City wise, Delhi leads the chart followed by cities from US and Canada.
3. For the keyword Desi (popular porn query from Hindi and Urdu speaking countries), Pakistan leads the chart followed by India. Lahore and Karachi (Pakistan) beat Delhi (India) when searching for Desi online.

5. Viagra I could not resist but to check for the statistics for viagra (one of the high volume keywords on Internet). Georgia, Cuba and Moldova top the list for countries searching for viagra. And guess what the Casanova capital of world Milan is the leading city to search for viagra and Amsterdam (sex capital of world) being at the 10th position.

For the keyword cialis (another erectile dysfunctional drug), Italy leads the chart and Milan being the top city looking for cialis. When searching for cialis on Google Insights, the rising searched chart shows "Viagra vs Cialis" as the top search.

5. Love, Peace and Health

For the keyword love, Philippines tops the country list and Los Angeles tops the city list. None of the Asian cities feature in top 10 for Love. Lot’s of African countries feature in top 10 when looking for Peace. Similarly, for health there are lot of African countries featuring in top 10.

I am sure there are more innovation which can be put behind analysing various keywords (like osama bin laden, terrorism, microsoft, linux and so on) on Internet using Google Insights. Do let us know your stats for other interesting keywords.
