AT&T Pogo Browser-The NextGen Browser
We all have watched sci-fi movies and know how flamboyant the computer screen looks in those movies. How about bringing it to your desktop. AT&T is all set to do that by launching a web browser which is called as Pogo. Still in beta testing phase, the browser is available on invitation basis or by signing up for the Pogo Mailing List. I was fortunate enough to read the news around 45 days back and received my invitation a couple of days back. So, please be patient to receive the invitation.
As the terminology goes, the browser is hyper-visual and hence (understandably) high on resources. Based on the Mozilla engine and backed by the technology of vizible, pogo promises to be the browser for the next generation. Let’s first see, how heavy is pogo on the resources. I have opened three cells (equivalent to the tabs in Firefox) in pogo which are static pages and pogo is almost using 170 MB of RAM. Following is a snapshot of my task manager.
Following are the system requirements for pogo.
Let’s take a look at the features pogo flaunts about. But before that let me give you a screen shot of the much anticipated browser. (I have marked the important areas with the red arrows).
1. Pogo’s History Player
Pogo’s history feature is more or less like a player and it visually shows you your history. The following snapshot will give you a feel of this feature.
2. Pogo’s Bookmarking
The bookmarks also are also quite graphic and can be played with visual effect. You can also create a collection of your bookmarks which is similar to categorizing them into a particular categories or folders in Firefox.
3. Pogo’s Springboard
The most exciting feature of pogo as a browser is introduction of something very unique called as springboard. I know many would argue that it’s the same feature as the speed dial feature in Opera, but springboard is a different thing all together. You can do so much more with the springboard than you could with the speed dial.
4. Pogo’s Fabulous Find
The fabulous find is an amazing feature and probably the most unique feature that separates pogo from other browser. What it does is that it finds for a particular search keyword across your bookmark, collection, search history and history.
5. Pogo’s Dock Feature
Pogo has named it’s tab-bar as dock and the tabs as cells. They actually fit to the description and would not have sounded good if they were to be called as tab-bar and tabs. The dock is also quite graphical.
I have tried to cover almost all the features of Pogo. However, there’s more to it than meets the eye at the first glance. Also, you can might also be interested in checking out the official demo of the browser. I suggest that you can try the browser on a considerably advanced machine. It’s free of cost to worth a try. But as it’s said it’s a great idea to backup your stuff before testing the beta versions.
