How to Create a Global Mailing or Distribution List Using Gmail
![]() |
This article will discuss how to create Global mailing lists or distribution list using Gmail. This is not a feature that is offered by Gmail, its a workaround that will let users create their Global mailing lists for a small (my be up to 100, because managing could get a little tough) group of members. This technique uses the "filter" feature in Gmail to create the e-mail address list. We haven’t tested to see how many filters can be created in Gmail, but we are hoping quite a few.
Here goes.. following steps will let you create Global Mailing lists or Distribution lists using Gmail.
- Create a New Gmail account for you Mailing/Distribution list. (We have careated "my.globallist@gmail.com" for this exercise.)
- Login to the new gmail ID "my.globallist@gmail.com" and click on "Settings:
- Click on "Filters" tab and click on "Create a New Filter"
- Type an * in the "From" field and click on "Next Step" button.
- Check the "Forward it to" checkbox and type in an e-mail address you want to include in your Global e-mail address list. e.g. nerds@tnerd.com
- Click on "Create Filter"
Repeat these steps for ever address you want to add to the Global mailing list. This way you can create multiple mailing lists with multiple gmail ID’s.
Above steps are explained using Images
Create an e-mail address (my.globallist@gmail.com)

Hey Aditya,
Thanks for posting a comment to let us know the limitation. We did try a few things to try and work around the forward limit, but couldn't.
We will let you know if we come up with a way to do this.
I am seeing this just now. Good idea. If it is limiting to 20 email addresses, cant we create multiple filters and follow the same procedure?

Hey thanx, for the information...but gmail only supports forwarding to only 20 mail address do you have a turn-around for that.
