Online Reputation Management for Individuals. Are we there yet?

Reputation Management Reputation, Impression, Image, Integrity, etc.. these things matter a lot to an individual and people around him or her. People hesitate to associate with a person who lacks any of these characteristics.

Internet is fast becoming a testimonial of an individual. Perform a search with an e-mail address, Name, Mobile Number, etc.. of a person and more often than not you will find quite a bit about that persons habits and behavior online which gives you an idea of what that person is all about.

Sites like LinkedIn, Facebook. Orkut, MySpace, Blogspot (Blogger), Wordpress, etc.. has profiles most of the people who spend good amount of time online which makes it even more easier for people to know about each other or about a person in specific.

Thats not all, it would have been better if you were in total control of the information about yourself on the internet but unfortunately thats not the case here. Given the democratic nature of the internet, people are allowed to write whatever they want to, about whoever they want to. This makes it even more tougher for individuals to keep the slate clean if they have been involved in something they shouldn’t have.

Services like Lookuppage offer to keep your search engine reputation decently clean on the internet by publishing your profile online with high visibility. On the other hand such techniques and practices are controversial because these go against the democratic nature of the internet.

Here is what a search on "Syed Abbas" looks like on Google. My Online reputation is pretty much in my control as 5 out of 10 results are in my control :).
