IBM Green Link: IBM goes fast, goes green!
Every company today wants to contribute to the environment cause by lowering their energy consumption and go green. While lot of companies do contribute in their own way only a few help other companies reduce their energy consumption and one such company is IBM.
IBM’s research scientists have come up with a new technology which sends data in the form of light instead of transmitting through wires. The new technology is capable of sending 8TB’s of data per second, using the power of a 100 Watt lightbulb. This means the power consumption will be roughly 100 times less then it is right now.
The new technology uses light instead of wires to send information and could allow, for example, the transmission of 8 trillion bits (terabits) per second of information — equivalent to about 5,000 high-definition video streams — using the power of a single 100-watt lightbulb.
This technology comes at the right time not only and does satisfy the environment and commercial needs in todays world. It addresses the environmental cause by lowering the energy consumption and addresses the commercial need by enabling high transfers between networks and devices, because tomorrows technology is all about High-Definition Videos over internet or High-Definition images in the health care industry, etc..
While companies try and come up with latest technologies to contribute to the environment cause, lets do our own bit to do the same! What was the last thing you did to go green?
