Ignorance is bliss! This saying came true when I read upon "Are you smarter than a 5th grader? ", little more research on it and the truth is revealed.
"Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai?" is not an original concept (I thought it was, dumb huh?). Yea, deal with it, it’s not an original concept. If that was not enough, take this.. India is not even one of the first few countries to replicate the concept.
Are you smarter than a 5th grader? has been reproduced in more than 38 countries by now and this year it is being aired in 5 countries including India, Canada, South Africa, Greece and Chile. The concept is originally from United States and dates back to 1960’s, read more here.
I hope and wish India comes up with some smart concepts which are copied by other over the years. If you know of any such concepts which are being copied by other countries do leave a comment. Nothing wrong in being inspired or trying to recreate something which has already worked! but our production houses should not treat this as the only way to create popular TV shows as the risk of creating something which wont work is minimal because these concepts have already done wonders somewhere else. Example. Indian Idol, Big Boss, Kon Banega Crorepati, etc..
As I mentioned in my article I am just hoping that we too come up with concepts which can be sold to production houses around the world and I believe we are very much capable of doing it.

I agree that Indian Tv / films copy more than create anything original. But, PP might be one of the zillion format shows that are sold to countries from Prodution Houses like Free MAntle. So it being unproginal is not a crime. As long as it is well made...NOthing wrong.
