Google Killer? Not Tomorrow, Not In a Year, Not in 10-20 Years at least!

I believe Barack Obama will be the president, I believe US will not go into a recession and I also believe there wont be a Google Killer in the next 10-20 years if not more. Google has just started, there are tons of opportunities and unexplored & untapped markets to be studied and entered. Now lets see why there wont be a Google Killer?

Google’s inventory: Having a huge inventory provides Google with the required edge over its competitors. They have clients from all imaginable businesses and fields which cater to almost everyone on the internet. Google has managed to create a perfectly balanced echo system around its advertising business where enough advertisers find enough customers and the other way round. This cycle is what keep the business running. Google got into this business real early and not only they brought in a lot of customers in aggressively but they also innovated their systems, processes and features real quick. That brings us to my next point.

Googlers: This is one of the biggest strengths of Google. When Google says that they hire the best and the brightest they really mean it. Googlers are smart, innovative, intelligent and not afraid of thinking out of the box and taking up new challenges.

Freedom: Google’s 80:20 or 70:30 rule plays a major role in innovation. Froogle by Nevill Manning, Orkut by Orkut and News by Krishna Bharat are good examples of 20% projects which made it out in the market. This is where the innovation comes from.

Besides the things I have mentioned above I always maintained my own theory of why there cant be a Google Killer, this is how it goes. The reason why there cant be another Googler or a Google Killer is because Google was not built in a day, being that said, remember nothing is perfect which leaves the opportunity for small players to come in and capitalize on the opportunity. Likewise if a bunch of companies find such opportunities then it might make some difference.

Such small companies can also become case studies for Google based on which they will either acquire the company like they have in the past or include new functionalities in the product.
