Google Maps for Mobile new beta version comes with "My Location" option which locates your approximate location on the map. how cool is that? If you are concerned about your privacy and are thinking that Google can locate you no matter where you are, relax! first of all no personal information is revealed to Google’s application and if you are still concerned about your privacy then you have the option of turning "My Location" on Google Maps off.
This software can be installed on latest smart phones and does not require the handset to have GPS capabilities to function. "My Location" on Google Maps uses the mobile towers information to locate you on the map.
Remember this service is still under "Beta" so do expect to see some erratic behavior occasionally.
