I think you got it wrong. Adobe Air might not be the future for other reasons, but labeling as "desktop" is incorrect if by "desktop" you mean "no internet connection". (Adobe Air is full of internetts!)

Also I don't 100% believe in a cloudy future. A bit of mist maybe, but that's another story.

i disagree.

To me AIR apps is not replacing the web apps but it is replacing the web browser itself (Think it as a customized / programmed web browser) which is capable of interacting with your computer / desktop. As you know, browser is the only problem when you try to expand the technology to the next level. That is the only reason Google came up with their own browser. I think AIR is in a very good direction, i just wish Adobe makes it more powerful like Java. I wish it can also run inside the browser like Java applets. I wish you don’t have to install the AIR application in order to run it. i wish everything that Java technology has for AIR.

I think the distinction here is data and interface. Data can be stored anywhere, either desktop, or a server half way around the world. But the interface, how you access the data, can either be a desktop or internet based app.

I see AIR as a bridge to the cloud, so to speak. A bridge with a safety net for when you're not connected to the web (which is becoming more and more rare, and thus, is a little pointless)

I think Adobe AIR will last long .I am sure AIR will be a part of cloud computing because it supports HTML, JavaScript, XML which are the major client-technologies that cloud-computing uses.Besides acting like a web-client, it also can be a desktop agent. AIR is bridging the gap between desktop application and web application. "Jaya hos ADOBE AIR ko. Pasupati nath le raksha garun. "

I think Air will most definitely last. It will open opportunities to all PHP, Ruby, ASP, etc. developers as these technologies work very well together and are almost a requirement when Air is used as a web app since it cannot connect directly to a database server, such as MySQL. I see Air as what Flash was years ago. It provides another tool to developers and graphic artists alike. You still have those that don't believe Flash has any place outside of advertisements and entertaining animations, but it has flourished and thrived online and on the desktop via the projector EXE's to become so much more. Air technology is just one inevitable result of need, desire, and convenience. Necessity is the mother of invention.

While I agree that "cloud computing" is a good concept in theory, it is still a long way off. Personally I don't want my financial records held by B.O.A. to be in the open, and yes I am aware they already could be.. I just don't want to know it :)

The idea behind Adobe AIR is actually to leverage the cloud computing model if you think about it.. the data will most likely be stored remotely, while the terminal will be local.. oh wait, wasn't this already done in the past with SUN terminals? I think AIR has a place still, and no I am not just saying that because I am a developer.. I really think it will last.

I think the Cloud idea is pretty cool, although, what do you guys think about the security concerns here?

Who says that AIR is just for desktop applications? Its also for the web applications. And why would not one want to have such desktop applications if he uses his laptop to connect every here and there.
