I have worked and currently working with the best people in the BPO and Internet industry and each one of them very correctly said “There are no shortcuts to success!”  and even if you find one, it wont last long!

I totally agree, I have experienced it first hand. What I have noticed and learned that it is really important to be at the right place at the right time and the success will come to you for the right reasons and this is what I call taking “Steep Turns”. Let me explain!

If you want a career in investment banking then there is no point opting for Technology related subjects. The point I am making here is that you should plan your moves. I’ll state another example (will be more specific, I promise).

Let’s say you are working in Call centre, Dell in this case. If you inspire to be a T2 or be a part of a specialist team then you should probably come up with solutions for newly surfaced issues and help your team with other technical issues and in case you want to be a part of the management team then you should work closely with your manager, learn things from him and take initiatives and have certain command over the group. These are a few things that will help you express your interests and long term goals without actually wording it.

Time is very precious, everyone knows that right? Then why don’t we value it as much as we value the time spent learning the new iPhone features or the time you spent on the watch you want to buy for your girlfriend.

Don’t follow the trend
, think of how something can be improved from its current state. It doesn’t have to be BIG, think of the small things to start with. Just look around and you will find tons of things which can be improved. Think Different and BE ORIGNAL!

Your achievements during the time spent in the industry will talk for you. Ideally achievements should be more than the time spent, that’s what makes you better than the rest! If someone says I am working as a Manager in Dell and I just as in agent just about a year ago, wouldn’t you be surprised but that speaks a lot about that person. It shows the kind of effort he has put in to get were he is today and he has done all the right things at the right time. Talk to him and he will tell you that he had a plan the day he joined Dell and it worked for him.

If you were expecting a promotion which went to someone you think does not deserve it, stop cribbing and think again! Think what he’s got you ain’t got and get it. Like they say “There are no shortcuts to success” but you can take the steep turns.

Couple of things you should keep in mind all the time:

Good Luck!
