Barcamp Hyderabad 3: What’s happening around Web 2.0?

How is this post different? TNerd is the only site you will find the Audio recordings for the 3. If any of the presenters want their audio to be removed, kindly mail me at nerd [ at ] tnerd.com

This was the first time I attended at Hyderabad. 3 ’s have been held in hyderabad so far. 3rd was held at Infosys, the previous one was at Microsoft.

The day was packed with lot of interesting and thought provoking presentations. With each presentation we saw how Web 2.0 is evolving and the trends in the industry. We also discussed about the differences in the last Internet bubble and the current bubble (if there is one!). Lot of comments flew around and few of them suggested that Communities and the Advertising revenue model will save the DOT COM’s from crashing this time around!

Ramesh kicked off the third by talking about Web 2.0 and different companies launched their products based on Web 2.0 concept. One of the products he specifically mentioned was Gmail and how it was launched in Web 2.0 style with the "viral" invitation based approach, though he concluded by saying Gmail is not a Web 2.0 anymore (agreed!).

That’s Ramesh for you! Click on the Play button to here Ramesh’s presentation .

It was time for my favorite presentation of the day, DimDim! DimDim offers an installation free web meeting service for absolutely nothing, isn’t that freaking great! It is amazing to see how DimDim uses the browser resources to offer this service. This is not very different from Webex, however DimDim is for free which makes it even better. I loved the product and I am sure you will hear it roar once it’s launched.

Bharath started the talk and later Deodhar(CEO of DimDim) took over to answer the queries from the audience. The first picture is of Bharath and the second one is of Deodhar.  Click on the Play button to hear DimDim’s presentation .

Kapil presented SlideShare.net. Do I even have to tell you what SlideShare.net is? If yes, then you should probably stop reading this article here! cos every techie on the internet know what SlideShare is all about.

I loved the SlideShare service; I was (hopefully) among few of the first bloggers who mentioned SlideShare.

Next was Jankiram from Microsoft. He presented Live Messenger and how it evolved from the previous messengers and how exactly is Live different from its previous versions.

He spoke about how automated BOT’s can help the users and can be the best FAQ guides ever (I totally agree on this one).

I never heard him saying that this is a revolutionary technology Microsoft is offering (or did I? Whatever!) But any avid IRC user would know about BOT’s concept since the birth of DALnet in mid 1994. Never the less it’s a Good concept. Click on the Play button to hear Jankiram’s presentation .

Next to come was Jay, from Pramati. He spoke about how desktop based applications are better than web based applications. He pointed out to the fact how we upload all our data on the Internet on different sites and later loose a track or the uploaded data becomes so HUGE that it is virtually impossible to later download or to change the service.

Within NO time people started commenting and questioning his logic and idea around the whole web based services.

I personally think it is a GREAT thought to have all of my data on my computer yet share it with the rest of the world. However this idea was not presented properly to the audience because of which the whole discussion was around how Web is better instead of what could be the ideal solution!

That’s Jay…  Click on the Play button to hear Jay’s presentation .

There were couple of presentations after that and one of them was Venu Gopal from SlideShare team who spoke about Ruby and how it is making waves in the web technologies. Click on the Play button to hear Venu’s presentation .

The other presentation was about the Web 2.0 acid test. This basically talked about what exactly is Web 2.0 and how we can identify Web 2.0 from a typical Web 1.0. Click on the Play button to hear Venu’s presentation .

Another one was from the same team (Cordys) and it talked about Web 2.0. Click here to hear the presentation .

Note: I do not have recordings of all the presentations but this is most of it!
