Hutchison Essar + Microsoft = New mobile applications and services

HOT, HOT, HOTTEST – Thats Indian mobile industry! Few months ago .MOBI TLD was launched which was supported by around 13 top IT companies including Microsoft, Google, Samsung, etc. If that was not a strong enough signal for mobile users as to how serious IT companies are about the mobile segment, this is another and a stronger signal of upcoming mobile applications and services. Hutchinson also known as Hutch is the fourth largest mobile service provider in India. Hutch signed a deal with Microsoft to provide services such as Chat, Search and E-mail to its 21 million users.

This tie up does not come as a surprise to me as the existing Hutch GPRS site is powered by MSN. So this deal is just an extension of their existing partnership.

The interesting point is, as mentioned earlier Hutch is the 4th largest Mobile Service Provider in India which leaves top three for other companies (too bad for Microsoft), so don’t be surprised if Yahoo or any other IT company strikes a similar deals with a larger Mobile Service Provider.
